🏁 LIMITED EDITION 100 “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series” by Alex Book Art 1953 NASCAR Champion Driver: Herb Thomas Car: Hudson Hornet Team / Owner: Herb Thomas Racing Official race name: Wilkes County 200 Date: Sunday, March 29th, 1953 Racetrack: North Wilkesboro Speedway Location: North Wilkesboro, NC Track stats: 0.625-Mile Dirt Oval Landscape & Architecture: A downhill frontstretch and the infield. This artwork belongs to my “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series,” a historically focused collection dedicated to the drivers, machines, and racetracks that defined the formative years of American stock-car racing. Each piece is released as a Limited Edition of 100 and created entirely by hand. My guiding principle remains unchanged: Authenticity, precision, and historical accuracy in every stroke of my brush. I am Alex Book, an automotive artist and motorsport historian. My work is grounded in archival research and traditional artistic methods. In this series, the racing environment—track surface, infield, grandstands, and surrounding landscape—is rendered in ink drawing with watercolor accents, inspired by early graphic engravings. The race car and driver are executed in oil painting, allowing mechanical form, weight, and motion to stand apart from the scene. This artwork depicts Herb Thomas, the 1953 NASCAR Champion, driving the legendary Hudson Hornet entered by Herb Thomas Racing. The scene is set during the Wilkes County 200, held on Sunday, March 29th, 1953, at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina. The 0.625-mile dirt oval, carved into the hillside, was known for its downhill frontstretch, uneven rhythm, and relentless demands on car control and mechanical durability. The infield and track profile shown in the artwork reflect the distinctive character that made North Wilkesboro one of the most respected short tracks in NASCAR history. For each subject in this collection, I offer two giclée art print formats, allowing collectors to choose between focused technical study and a complete historical composition: full vertical composition presenting the car within its racing environment, available on white or light beige backgrounds. All prints are produced as premium matte art prints on 175 gsm museum-grade archival paper, using pigmented archival inks selected for durability and tonal accuracy. Each print is hand-rolled in protective tissue and shipped in a reinforced tube or triangle box. The artwork is supplied unframed. This series is created for collectors, historians, and dedicated motorsport enthusiasts who value research, craftsmanship, and historical truth—artworks intended as visual records of racing history rather than mass-produced decoration. Unframed print, hand-rolled in protective paper and shipped in a rigid tube. Made in the USA from globally sourced materials.
